The last time we talked to Craig Yahata, SOA post guru, he took us to a mix of Episode 409. Here he explains the process of post-production, as concisely as possible. There is A LOT that goes into the post-production of an episode, several steps and people involved in making and episode broadcast-ready. This is where Kurt Sutter spends a big chunk of his time, perfecting each episode from trimming scenes for time, to choosing music, to special effects. It is really where the magic happens. Here’s Craig talking more about Post:
Thanks for watching, hope you learned something about your favorite show.

Really interesting, would have like to of seen him go through a couple of the editing processes as an example visually. Just verbal explanation started to become a bit to monotone for me. Thank you for posting, looking forward to more behind the scenes info.
By Leah on December 4th, 2011 at 4:21 pmI’m both a huge fan of the show as well as someone about to get my BFA in this field, Post production is what I’m trying to get into and working on a show like Sons of Anarchy would be a dream come true, My question is what programs do you use? Protools? Finalcut? Adobe Creative suite? and how experience do you generally look for when you hire on someone new?
By Mike on December 7th, 2011 at 9:19 amhey awesome! just checked out some of the editing process it was fantastic and thought that I would let you all know what a great job from the cast to you people behind the scenes have done, Great show and thanks for giving us viewers a opportunity to see how it all comes together
By chris romine on December 7th, 2011 at 1:10 pmWell, what can I say. Another jaw dropping season ending. Now we wait with anticipation for next September Season 5……
A suggestion for all the ladies in the viewers circle:
By Ellie6626 on December 8th, 2011 at 4:21 pmHow about a calendar of all the cast? Great idea for Xmas gifts. The CD’s are finally here.
I was wondering if the production team takes ideas/inspiration for music? I know that i have plenty of musical artists that i think would fit excellent for the show and i’m sure other S.O.A fans have musical inspiration as well. just a thought that might be a big hit with SOA fans, if they could offer opinions on undergroud/up-and-coming artists thatt could possibly be featured on future seasons of Sons.
By Brandy Winston on December 8th, 2011 at 11:26 pmIt may be a crazy fan suggestion or request, but seeing as the Sons crew does the occasional traveling episodes to either Ireland, Arizona, etc. for patch-overs or other controversy. The idea of the crew coming to a charter here in the Midwest is not a bad suggestion. Or even possibly Opie being on the road and having a personal episode or moments here. I’m from St. Louis, MO (more specifically O’Fallon) and we are proud of our Harleys and brotherhoods as well as the open roads outside the city. I believe an episode involving a MO chapter of the SOA could prove to get plenty of positive feedback. Just food for thought. Thanks to the whole production crew for doing what you do. Live free and ride hard guys!
By Sean Hinkle on December 31st, 2011 at 10:26 amI enjoyed the tech on what transpires. I do have a sugestion. Can you give a date of when the new season starts at the end of the season. Didn’t even know it was the end till the final picture of the New Pres. and comparing of the Old pic. That was very deep and good. I understand maybe you don’t know if you are going to have a new season. It would be very tramatic if you don’t. This is the only true hapening show of reality with people that don’t have the norm lives. I am of the older set and remember when I was young and was a biker old lady and some of it is so true. But, you should talk to some of the old ladys to find out the truth on how they where treated. That would bring a lot of reality too.
By Gloria Morgan on January 19th, 2012 at 9:05 pmThe film was ok and not boring. It told what happens. A sugestion, at the end of the season, let us know when the new one will beguin again if you know. Maybe you don’t know, that would be a crime. You are great. I am old and use to be an old lady of a pres. when I was young and the old ladys where treated a lot different but I guess you are looking to show what sells. Or what the studio demands i guess. Thank you for the show, I look forward to it.
By Gloria Morgan on January 19th, 2012 at 9:11 pmWe the viewers take for granted what we see on the show every week with out the knowledge of what it takes just to get it on the tube. My hats off to all who make the show possible. I hope the future will bring us more shows and feature movies of the life style. We are a neglected market.
